Entry through Spain and delivery to Portugal: separate T1 transit from import release

Published by Jeton Express · JETON EXPRESS SERVICE LIMITED

This English summary helps coordinate goods entering through Spain with a Portuguese destination. The representative must confirm customs status and the intended procedure for the specific operation. The main article is in Spanish.

Status and procedure

AEAT describes T1 as external Union transit, chiefly for non-Union goods. The Spain-to-Portugal route alone does not determine its use. Ask the representative to confirm goods status, the intended procedure and responsible parties before booking transport. A transit document should not be presented as proof of release for free circulation or tax exemption.

Separate references and events

The public NCTS explanation distinguishes the start of transit, presentation or arrival notification at destination, results and discharge by the departure office. Record the MRN and the actually confirmed status with evidence. Keep physical arrival in another record. The Commission describes release for free circulation as a distinct event; an MRN or warehouse receipt does not establish that release.

Coordination with Portugal

Confirm the commercial address, destination customs office and presentation point separately. AT’s STADA Trânsito–CAU portal lists information and manuals, including arrival communication for authorized-consignee situations. Listing an address does not grant that authorization to a warehouse. Ask the representative to confirm the location, authorized operator and applicable receiving procedure.

Missing confirmations and changes

For each stage, retain the status, document, responsible party and next action. If the destination changes or a confirmation is missing, ask the representative before rearranging collection or unloading. These sources are public explanations and indexes: Portuguese manuals have individual dates and NCTS information notes national choices. Confirm the applicable versions for messages, deadlines, authorizations and ENS integration.

Example: entry and destination differ

Imagine goods arriving in Spain with Portugal shown in the delivery plan. The team holds a transit reference and a warehouse arrival notice. Record both, but ask the representative for the confirmed status, where presentation occurs and which evidence the next stage requires. If the plan uses transit, keep presentation, results and discharge distinct from importation. This hypothetical scenario does not determine the import country, whether T1 applies or whether collection is authorized.

Questions about MRNs and receiving

Does an MRN establish completed importation? Record the confirmed procedure status and obtain separate import-release evidence where applicable. Does every Spain–Portugal movement require T1? The route does not determine status or procedure. Can a warehouse named in the order notify arrival as an authorized consignee? That depends on its actual authorization and the confirmed plan, rather than the address alone. Ask the representative to confirm each point before scheduling the operation.

Prepare the next decision

For an enquiry, gather the entry point, intended destination, available references and latest confirmed statuses. Identify each stage’s document, date, issuer and party responsible for responding. Ask which next action is authorized and who supplies the missing confirmation. If receiving arrangements in Portugal change, have the representative review the procedure and instructions before changing collection. This record helps coordinate the file; it neither submits NCTS messages nor checks an MRN in real time.
